During a recent trip to Harpers Ferry, I hiked two days in a row in sudden onset thunderstorms.  It was an exciting experience that forces you to find your mettle within the forces of nature.  The second day, cover was sought under the Jefferson's Rock near the Harpers cemetery. Watching rain blow sideways, and the fog spurs rise across the Shenendoah, Maryland Heights and the town of Harpers Ferry below, was something I won't forget.

I'm heading out to the knobs of southern Indiana today to hopefully set up shop, dog and daughter in tow.  I finished this painting a few days ago, but didn't immediately post until I thought it was finished.  Even though a landscape is often simple, there is always so much more going then at first glance. Storms in Kansas, if you have driven one side to the other, come up fast and furious.  So much so, that the rest stops have emergency alert notifications that go off before you can see a storm on the flat plain. It is one of the scariest and exhilarating experiences I have encountered. Nature showing its strength.

I can't believe there is only one painting left to do. This challenge proved to be such a joy, and allowed me to grow as an artist. I wasn't sure I would be able to complete it, but I did, only missing one day because of illness.  And this painting, Oncoming Storm, is by far my favorite for many reasons.
